The food guide pyramid is a good resource to guide your health eating habits. According to the USDA, every day you should eat:

 

 

 

§       Grains- try to eat whole grains, like whole wheat bread

§       Vegetables- eat a variety of colors, like carrots and peas

§       Fruits- eat a variety, like oranges and bananas

§       Oils/Fats- eat good fats, like fish, nuts and olive oil

§       Dairy- eat low-fat or fat-free milk, cheese and yogurt

§       Meat and beans- pick lean meats and chicken and eat beans

§       Keep physically active for 30 minutes/day and balance your physical activity with good food choices

Good Food Choices

Everyone gets busy and often times, we eat out or eat on the run. Here are some suggestions for healthy restaurant and fast food choices:

 

Fast Food Restaurants- salad with chicken, baked potato with broccoli or fruit/nut/yogurt parfait

 

Middle Eastern- hommous with vegetables, tabbouli, fattosh salad or fresh squeezed juice

 

Pizza- thin crust with a variety of vegetables or salad

 

Chinese- Stir-fried vegetable dish with brown rice and tea

 

Italian- whole-wheat pasta with tomato sauce or tossed with vegetables or fish
